  Kim Mackenzie-Doyle, President Emeritus 2018-2019 Institute of Design Ireland, founder of Mind Over Matter Initiative    Topic:  Design and Business via Mind Over Matter Initiative   About Kim and Mind Over Matter  As part of leading product design company Design Partners, I designed the world’s best-selling computer mouse. Throughout my career I have won multiple worldwide design awards and hold numerous patents. My passion for design has created many exciting opportunities and because I believe in the value of good design in our everyday lives, my experience extends from product design to academia and community.  As head of designCORE, one of Ireland’s leading design research centres based in Carlow IT, I collaborated with Irish SMEs on development, design thinking, product research and strategy. During this time I was responsible for the IT’s first Innovation Partnership and successful tender for Ireland’s first design focused technology gateway, Design+.  Currently, I am Partner and Head of Design and Innovation at tech start-up HUB Controls. In 2016 they launched their first multi-award-winning product, the HUB Controller. A smart thermostat, it is the only one in Ireland that is designed, engineered and manufactured in Ireland.  My academic experience includes a position as Industry Expert Lecturer in Product Design at University of Maynooth, as well as working for 4 years as external examiner at IT Sligo’s Creative Design Degree course.  In May 2017 I was honoured to become President of the Institute of Designers Ireland and Chair of the Board for a one year term. With over 2500 members, it is Ireland’s biggest and oldest design associations. During this time I have founded two key initiates that highlight challenges within our design community. IDI Mind Over Matter – a national day of design in aid of mental health partnering with Aware and Why Design an initiative to address the gender imbalance in the Irish Design Sector.  Looking forward I am keen to learn new ways of adding value to every moment through Design.
